🏟️🚩Former Barça player Sonny Anderson speaks bluntly about Kylian Mbappé: “He is at the…” Par Don Boris le 28 January 2025

Former Brazilian striker Sonny Anderson, who had a brilliant career at Barça and Lyon, has compared Kylian Mbappé to two living legends of modern football. On BeIN Sports, where he has been a pundit for over a decade, the former Brazilian international did not hide his admiration for the Madrid player.
After a shaky start, marked by matches in which he barely made an impact, Kylian Mbappé has regained his respect. Criticised and under pressure from all Madrid fans who want to see the version of him that dazzled at Paris Saint-Germain, the French forward has got his head back in the right place. Since the end of 2024, KM9 has been silencing his critics in spectacular fashion. Becoming highly clinical in front of goal, the Bondy native continues to score relentlessly. In Real Madrid’s last five matches, the France captain has scored in every single one. This situation has left Sonny Anderson speechless.
Sonny Anderson makes a bold comparison
Former Barça player Sonny Anderson speaks bluntly about Kylian Mbappé: “He is at the…”
Since his famous first hat-trick in a Madrid shirt (against Valladolid last Saturday in La Liga), Kylian Mbappé has been showered with praise. Clearly on fire with a much simpler playing style, where he no longer focuses on unnecessary dribbles or movements on the pitch, the former PSG star is winning over all the sceptics. If he is currently the best striker in the world, according to Carlo Ancelotti, KM9 is already being compared to two other living legends of Madrid’s attack.
On BeIN Sports, where he has been a pundit since 2012, Sonny Anderson, a former Brazil international (1997–2001, 7 matches and 1 goal) who spent two seasons at FC Barcelona (1997–1999, 68 matches and 21 goals), did not mince his words when sharing his thoughts on Real Madrid’s current number 9: “Kylian Mbappé? He is on the level of Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo,” said Anderson. Much freer in attack, KM9 is now linking up better with his teammates, who are finding him with ease.
Already on 22 goals in 32 matches for the Madrid side, Mbappé is on track to surpass the 30-goal mark in his first season. Considering Cristiano Ronaldo scored 33 goals in his debut season at Real Madrid (but in just 30 matches), it’s fair to say the new Madrid number 9 could outdo him in terms of statistics and position himself as a clear contender for the 2025 Ballon d’Or. We now await the rest of the season to see what the 26-year-old Frenchman, who is once again at the peak of his powers, has in store.
