Liverpool Urged to Target Alphonso Davies as Left-Back Solution

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has called on the club to pursue Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies as they look to reinforce their left-back position. With Andrew Robertson turning 30 and Konstantinos Tsimikas failing to impress as a long-term successor, Murphy believes the Reds need serious competition in that role.

Murphy’s Take on Liverpool’s Left-Back Situation

Speaking to *BetBrain*, Murphy praised Robertson’s impact at Anfield, calling him “one of the best left-backs Liverpool has ever had.” However, he stressed that Liverpool must plan for the future, as Robertson cannot maintain his high level forever.

“I don’t think Konstantinos Tsimikas is ever going to replace Robertson or play instead of him on a consistent basis,” Murphy said. “Liverpool would benefit from real competition at left-back, and Arne Slot should look long-term at the position.”

Alphonso Davies – The Ideal Fit?

Murphy highlighted Davies as the perfect candidate, noting that the Canadian defender is out of contract at Bayern Munich in 2025.

“There’d be plenty of competition, but Alphonso Davies is out of contract at Bayern in the summer. If you’re looking for a left-back that ticks every box—one-on-one defending, attacking threat, pace, and physicality—he would be the obvious choice for Liverpool.”

Liverpool’s Other Left-Back Options

Aside from Davies, Liverpool has been linked with Bournemouth’s 21-year-old left-back Milos Kerkez. The Hungary international, valued at around £40 million ($50m), recently scored his first goal for the Cherries and is seen as a potential long-term investment.

What’s Next for Liverpool?

Liverpool’s impressive form under Arne Slot has propelled them to the top of both the Premier League and Champions League standings. They face Newcastle at St. James’ Park on Wednesday, aiming to extend their lead further with another crucial victory.
