Mathys Tel: Arsenal tipped as top transfer option for forward amid Tottenham and Chelsea interest
Bayern Munich star could be at centre of transfer tug-of-war between London rivals
Mathys Tel could be at the centre transfer tug-of-war in the final days of the January window after leading Premier League clubs were offered the chance to sign him.
Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are among those interested in Tel, with Manchester United also said to be in the race for the 19-year-old Bayern Munich forward.
Bayern have confirmed Tel wants to leave and he appeared to wave goodbye to Bayern fans after their Champions League win over Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday.
Here, Standard Sport examines the best destination for a player who was once described by then Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic as “one of the biggest talents in Europe”.
Arsenal
Simon Collings
Arsenal are at that stage in the window where they just desperately need a body after injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus.
Tel would be a sensible solution, given he can operate out wide and through the middle.
He also suits Arsenal’s model of targeting young players that have room to improve.
If a loan move could be struck, that would be ideal for Arsenal as it would not block them off targeting a big-name signing in attack this summer.
Tel offers creativity and pace, which are two qualities Arsenal’s attacking play has lacked recently.
Chelsea
Malik Ouzia
Chelsea enquired about Tel earlier this month at the same time as Christopher Nkunku was being heavily linked with Bayern Munich and their interest pre-dates the current window.
The teenager would clearly fit a recruitment model that has been targeting the best young talent across Europe and Enzo Maresca is another manager who values versatility across the front line.
