BARCELONABarcelona issue crucial update on Gavi’s injury against Alaves

Barcelona’s narrow 1-0 victory over Alaves was marred by a frightening clash of heads between Gavi and Tomas Conechny.
The impact left both players sprawled on the pitch, prompting immediate concern from their teammates and the benches. Medical staff swiftly rushed onto the field to attend to the injured duo.
The match was halted for about five minutes as doctors assessed the players’ conditions. Ultimately, both had to be substituted, although Gavi initially resisted the decision.
The young midfielder showed his characteristic determination, walking to the touchline and insisting that he was fit to continue. Despite his protests, the club doctor was not convinced, expressing concerns about his safety.
Ronald Araujo and Raphinha also approached Gavi, urging him to prioritise his well-being and accept the substitution.
Yet it took the intervention of manager Hansi Flick to finally persuade the midfielder to leave the field. Fermin Lopez was brought on as Gavi’s replacement.

This incident once again highlighted Gavi’s fighting spirit and unwavering commitment to the team—qualities that have endeared him to Barcelona supporters.
However, such situations underscore the importance of prioritising player health and safety above all else.
Fortunately, the club later released a reassuring update on Gavi’s condition. Despite the head injury, there was no loss of consciousness, and medical tests returned normal results. He was subsequently discharged to recover at home.
“During this afternoon’s match against Alavés, Gavi suffered a head injury without loss of consciousness. The tests have been normal and he has been discharged from home,” read the statement.
As things stand, there are no indications that Gavi will miss any upcoming matches.
Barcelona are set to face a crucial quarter-final tie in the Copa del Rey against Valencia on Thursday, and the young midfielder’s availability will be a welcome boost for the team.
