Liverpool has been granted approval for the acquisition of Rayan Cherki after Lyon officially confirmed his transfer agreement.
The move for Rayan Cherki to join Liverpool has been authorized, with Lyon publicly announcing the deal.
Liverpool has received positive news regarding the potential signing of Lyon forward Rayan Cherki, following confirmation of the club’s agreement.
Recent shifts in Liverpool’s transfer approach indicate that they could have a major chance to secure Cherki from Lyon during the upcoming January window.
There has been widespread speculation linking Cherki with a switch to Anfield, and it appears that Lyon is already working on identifying a replacement for him, despite being under a transfer embargo.
The Reds have remained reserved in their transfer dealings as the window approaches, keeping details about their squad plans undisclosed.
Recent matches have demonstrated how injuries and suspensions can unsettle the team’s stability, particularly with ambitions in the Premier League, Champions League, and Carabao Cup.
During the summer, the club’s policy was to capitalize on ‘opportunistic’ transfer situations, and Cherki appears to fit this strategy, especially since Lyon is under financial strain and must raise funds swiftly to avoid dropping to Ligue 2.
“I’ll see at the end of the season if I’m still here or not,” Cherki remarked recently.
Lyon has been hit with significant sanctions due to their massive debt of €508 million (£421.1 million), which includes restrictions on transfers.
However, sources from ESPN suggest that they are working towards securing a new signing in January.
“Everything is set for me to join Lyon. I will be going on January 5. I inquired about the financial issues, and they assured me they would be resolved,” stated Thiago Almada, a playmaker from Botafogo, who is expected to complete the switch.
The 23-year-old Argentine, who operates as an attacking midfielder or winger, moved to Botafogo in July for €20 million (£16.5 million), with the agreement that he would transition between the clubs after half a year.
It is still unclear how the French side will manage the restrictions imposed by the Direction Nationale du Controle de Gestion (DNCG), but they are at least planning to register and field their new playmaker for the second half of the season.
With the potential necessity of selling important players next month, Cherki—who occupies the same role as Almada—could be a primary option to raise funds, making him an attractive target for Liverpool if they choose to act on their reported interest.
Manager Pierre Sage showed uncertainty when asked about the likelihood of the 21-year-old remaining with the squad beyond the January window, and reports suggest that an offer of €25m (£20.8m) would be enough for the Reds to finalize the move.
