Karim Benzema rocks Bergkamp’s shirt in new video: A throwback to when French almost joined Arsenal
Karim Benzema has recently shared a video that has sparked significant attention.
In this video, Benzema begins in a stylish Versace ensemble, transitions through highlights of his performances and training sessions with Al Ittihad, and notably, appears wearing an Arsenal shirt bearing Dennis Bergkamp’s name.
Benzema’s admiration for Bergkamp’s style is evident. Both players are known for their ball control and scoring abilities.
Karim Benzema almost made a high-profile move to Arsenal earlier in his career, back when he was a young, highly-rated forward at Lyon. In the summer of 2008, Benzema was heavily linked with a transfer to the Gunners, with manager Arsène Wenger keen to bring him to the Premier League.
At that time, Benzema had already impressed with his performances in Ligue 1, and Wenger was eager to sign the talented striker to bolster Arsenal’s attacking options. Wenger even went as far as to publicly praise Benzema, calling him “one of the best talents in European football” and expressing his admiration for the Frenchman’s technical skills.
However, despite all the speculation and Wenger’s clear interest, the deal never materialized.
