Leny Yoro sheds new light on Marcus Rashford’s departure and reveals what Ruben Amorim told squad in training

Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has revealed exactly what training sessions with Ruben Amorim are like, and it might explain Marcus Rashford’s shock departure.

On the final day of the January transfer window, United legend Rashford completed a shock loan move to Premier League rivals Aston Villa, who he will play for until the end of the season.

Rumours of Rashford’s departure began circulating after it became apparent he had fallen out with new manager Amorim after he was dropped for the local derby match against rivals Manchester City in December.

But now, the winger’s United teammate Yoro may have provided some further insight into exactly what led to the breakdown in Amorim’s relationship with Rashford, and how it could have led to his departure from the club.

In July, United signed young French defender Yoro from Lille for a reported £52.18million.

Just three months after joining, the 18-year-old had to adjust to massive change at the club after former manager Erik ten Hag was sacked and replaced by new boss Amorim, who appears to be a much more strict and demanding manager.

But, Yoro has revealed that he is really enjoying working under the Portuguese manager, as he opened up about what his relationship with the new boss is like.

Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents Podcast, the defender said: “I have a good relationship with Ruben Amorim. I just try to do what he asks me to do.

“He’s big on communication with the players because he played at a top level. He’s been at a lot of clubs, so he knows your feelings when you’re not playing or when you have a bad game. He knows how to speak with you, and that’s really important for me.”

Yoro went on to explain exactly what makes working with Amorim so rewarding, and in doing so he perhaps offered some further insight in what led to the United manager ousting Rashford.

“In training, it’s really, I would say, hard,” Yoro added. “But it’s important. We have a lot of training and, for him, training is really important because you play the game like you train.

“The most important thing is to be really good in training. If you are not working, if you are lazy in training, he won’t like you – he’ll kill you! It’s normal because, yeah, you play like you train.

“He’s really strict on this because, to win games and trophies, you need to be disciplined outside the pitch. You need to be punctual.”

After the 2-1 win over City, Amorim appeared to suggest that performances in training and discipline off of the pitch is what led to him dropping both Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho from the squad.

While Garnacho later worked his way back into the starting team, the Englishman didn’t one make it on to the pitch for United following Amorim’s brutal comments, perhaps suggesting his performances or attitude in the brutal training sessions didn’t improve.
