Explained: Why 6 Liverpool stars may not receive Premier League winners’ medal
The Reds are closing in on a huge win.
Federico Chiesa is at risk of missing out on an automatic Premier League winner’s medal as Liverpool edge closer to the 2024/25 title.
The Reds are currently 13 points clear at the top with just 10 games remaining.
While the majority of Liverpool’s squad have already made the five appearances required to earn a winner’s medal, a few players, including Chiesa, are still at risk.
The Italian winger, who joined from Juventus for £12.5 million in the summer, has played only three league games this season – against Bournemouth, Brentford, and Ipswich – meaning he’s still two appearances shy of qualifying for the prestigious medal.
Other players likely to miss out include reserve goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros, who made his Premier League debut in a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace in October but has featured only once.
Tyler Morton, Trey Nyoni, and James McConnell have yet to make a league appearance despite impressing in cup competitions, while Jayden Danns, currently on loan at Sunderland, is also four appearances short.
As per Premier League rules, a club’s champions are awarded 40 commemorative medals for players, staff, and officials, with each medal requiring at least five league appearances during the title-winning season.
Additional medals may only be granted with Premier League approval, which is unlikely unless over 39 players make the required appearances.
