Man Utd ‘seriously considering’ bringing back player Erik ten Hag let go as ‘bombshell’ drops

Manchester United are reportedly considering bringing back a former player in what would be a surprising move.
The team’s underwhelming 2024/25 season continued on Tuesday after they were defeated by a strong Nottingham Forest side at the City Ground.
Former winger Anthony Elanga netted a stunning solo goal to give Forest a 1-0 victory.
As a result, Ruben Amorim’s team remains in 13th place in the Premier League standings, and they will drop to 14th if Tottenham Hotspur wins against Chelsea on Thursday.
Looking toward the upcoming summer transfer window, it’s been sensationally claimed that United are interested in re-signing David de Gea, who left Old Trafford in 2023.
At the time, former manager Erik ten Hag opted to sign Andre Onana from Inter Milan.
However, Onana has frequently faced criticism after allowing several questionable goals.
As per Spanish outlet Fichajes, United are “seriously considering” De Gea’s return.
The report mentioned: “De Gea’s contract expires in June, but the club will trigger a clause to extend his deal for another year. Nevertheless, public pressure and United’s wish to correct their mistake could open the door to discussions.
“The goalkeeper’s return to Old Trafford now seems less improbable than it did a few months ago. At the club, they understand that his departure was a mistake, and they want to reclaim what they should never have let go.”

United legend Dwight Yorke has previously supported the idea of re-signing De Gea.
He commented: “I think re-signing David de Gea would be a really smart move.
“I don’t think it will happen, though, as it would rub salt in the wounds of the manager who let him go. My question is, what is the point of having a number two at the club?”
Manchester United will be back in Premier League action this weekend, facing off against Manchester City at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
