Arsenal have released a statement following the news that Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota has very sadly passed away at the age of 28. He, alongside his 26-year-old brother Andre Silva, who also tragically lost his life, were reportedly involved in a road traffic accident in Spain in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Posted to their X page, Arsenal wrote: “The thoughts of everyone at Arsenal are with Diogo’s family, friends and all associated with Liverpool Football Club. Rest in peace, Diogo.”
It follows Liverpool’s own statement which was posted to their official website. It reads: “Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.
“The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre.
“Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.
“We will continue to provide them with our full support.”
