🚨🏟️Liverpool’s Teen Star Rio Ngumoha Set for Unique “Car Clause” in First Pro Contract

Liverpool are preparing to offer teenage sensation Rio Ngumoha his first professional contract — and it comes with a rather unique twist.
As the 16-year-old approaches his 17th birthday next month, the club is reportedly ready to include a special vehicle agreement in the deal, something not even senior stars have in their contracts.
Ngumoha made headlines earlier this year when he became Liverpool’s youngest-ever first team player, starting an FA Cup tie against Accrington Stanley at just 16 years and 135 days old. Since then, he’s continued to impress in training, with reports suggesting he’s left senior players stunned with his fearless performances.
Having joined from Chelsea’s academy, the young winger is expected to officially sign professional terms once eligible — and should that happen, he’ll have to follow one of the Liverpool academy’s lesser-known rules.
🔒 The “car clause” is a club policy aimed at keeping young players grounded. While there’s no restriction on the type of vehicle, academy staff must approve any car before it’s allowed in the club’s official car park.
🗣️ Speaking previously on the ‘We Are Liverpool’ podcast, academy director Alex Inglethorpe explained the reasoning behind the rule:
> “It’s not just about what the manager thinks — senior players notice these things too. Driving in with a flashy Range Rover at 17? That’s not the message we want.”
He added that the policy isn’t about being strict, but about teaching humility and earning your rewards over time, not expecting instant luxuries.
Ngumoha, who started a recent pre-season clash against Preston North End, is expected to spend time with both the academy and first team this season — but whether he drives in or not, he’ll need the club’s blessing first.
One thing’s clear: Liverpool believe he’s worth the investment — and the rules are just part of shaping him for greatness.
