Liverpool has reached a critical point in the pursuit of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, amid a reported £150 million deadlock. With the summer transfer window closing in less than three weeks, Isak’s potential move to Anfield remains a hot topic.

Earlier this month, Liverpool’s £110 million bid for the Swedish international was rejected, and there are no signs that the transfer saga is slowing down as the Premier League season approaches. This summer, Liverpool has already strengthened their squad with seven new signings, showing their commitment to building a competitive team.

Despite the ongoing rumors, it is still unclear whether Isak will join Arne Slot’s squad. Reports from the ECHO suggest that Liverpool currently has no plans to submit a second offer. Newcastle, meanwhile, has insisted that Isak is not for sale this summer, although speculation has placed his value at around £150 million. Some believe Newcastle may need to secure a replacement striker before allowing any transfer to go through.

Isak’s name has been linked to Liverpool for several months, but serious talks have only emerged in recent weeks. With less than a month remaining in the transfer window, Liverpool must soon decide whether to pursue him again.

For a deal to happen, Newcastle would likely need to reconsider their position. Without a change in stance, Liverpool may have to focus on alternative targets. The Reds are known for prioritizing their main transfer objectives, and if Isak remains their top choice, it would require exceptional circumstances for them to shift focus.

Reports indicate that the transfer fee is not the main issue. Liverpool has shown a willingness to spend heavily, as evidenced by their initial £110 million offer. Newcastle, on the other hand, sees this summer as the optimal moment to secure the highest possible fee. The challenge lies in finding a suitable replacement for Isak, especially given the limited availability of top-quality strikers. Even though Liverpool has acquired Hugo Ekitike, Isak is still considered the ideal addition.

Newcastle has likely been evaluating the current striker options and may be somewhat disappointed with the choices. Benjamin Sesko, often seen as the perfect successor, opted to join Manchester United instead. Now, Newcastle must determine if players like Nicolas Jackson, Jorgen Strand Larsen, or Rodrigo Muniz could fill the gap. While none match Isak’s technical skills, a fully committed player such as Jackson could potentially provide more immediate impact than Isak, who might already be considering other options.

Ultimately, Liverpool’s task is straightforward: finalize the payment and conclude the transfer. Recent observations, such as during the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium, highlighted that Slot’s team lost some sharpness when making substitutions like Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, ultimately leading to a penalty shootout defeat.
