Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has voiced strong criticism of Alexander Isak’s conduct during his transfer saga, describing the forward’s actions as damaging for the sport. Isak pushed to secure a move away from Newcastle United, and Carragher believes this approach could set a troubling standard for future transfers.

The Swede was not the only player to force through a departure. Yoane Wissa openly demanded to leave Brentford before completing his transfer to Newcastle, while Arsenal’s Viktor Gyökeres faced disciplinary action at Sporting CP for failing to report back to training.

In contrast, Crystal Palace defender Marc Guéhi honored his commitments and continued to play for the club, only to see his switch to Liverpool collapse at the last minute. Carragher suggested that players like Guéhi—who handled their situation with professionalism—may now feel disadvantaged compared to those who disrupted their clubs to secure moves.

> “Look at Guéhi—he behaved impeccably, remained respected by the fans, and still missed out on his transfer,” Carragher told Sky Sports News. “Meanwhile, Isak and Wissa got their way. If more players follow that path, it will be a sad moment for football.”

The former defender emphasized that he does not oppose players wanting to move on, acknowledging the natural flow of transfers. However, he condemned the refusal to train or play while still being paid substantial wages.

> “I understand ambition—wanting silverware, higher wages, or bigger clubs. But when a club is paying you thousands every week, you should still be training and giving your best,” he argued. “Would those transfers have happened if they hadn’t downed tools? That’s the question.”

Carragher also weighed in on Liverpool’s own transfer business, disagreeing with the view that missing out on Guéhi was a major blow to their title chances.

> “People were saying Guéhi was more important than signing a striker. I don’t agree,” Carragher insisted. “Liverpool desperately needed another centre forward. They already have enough defenders—it’s about the quality, not the numbers.”
