🏟️🚨🚨✅✅✅🚨 Arne Slot Explains Endo Substitution Decision After Liverpool’s Defeat to Chelsea

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has defended his decision to bring on Wataru Endo instead of Federico Chiesa during the team’s 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge — a decision that divided the fanbase.
With Liverpool chasing the game late on, many supporters expected Slot to introduce another attacker in search of an equaliser. Instead, he chose Endo, a move some considered too cautious. But the Dutch coach explained that the change was made to restore order in what had become a very open match.
“If you look at the substitution we made, we brought Endo on — who we usually use when we need more control,” Slot said. “The last 10–15 minutes were wide open, and even though we could still create chances, we needed stability because Ryan Gravenberch was already filling in as a centre-back.”
Slot also dismissed claims that his decision showed a defensive mindset, insisting Liverpool remained committed to finding a goal until the end.
“I don’t believe that change was defensive,” he continued. “All our other substitutions were attacking ones because we were 1-0 down and still pushing to win.”
Liverpool’s latest loss has reignited debate over Slot’s tactical calls and whether the team’s inability to stay composed in decisive moments is costing them vital points. With growing scrutiny, the manager’s challenge will be to strike the right balance between control and attacking threat in the gam
es ahead.
