Kylian Mbappe has reportedly taken an active role in Real Madrid’s pursuit of a top Liverpool player, urging the club to finalize a deal for the Anfield star in 2026.

Following the acquisition of Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool in the summer of 2025, Real Madrid is set to target the reigning Premier League champions once more in 2026. Players such as Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Florian Wirtz, and Dominik Szoboszlai have all been mentioned, but the most probable Liverpool player to don Madrid colors next season is Ibrahima Konate.

With his contract at Liverpool expiring at the end of the season, Marca, which has strong connections to the Real Madrid leadership, reports that the French international center-back is the top defensive target for Los Blancos.

Madrid intends to acquire Konate next summer without a transfer fee, as he will be a free agent, with Fabrizio Romano among the credible sources highlighting the plans of the Spanish and European powerhouses.

E-Noticies has provided an update on Konate’s status, indicating that Madrid striker Mbappe is now directly involved in the discussions.

The Spanish news source has reported that Mbappe has ‘personally recommended the signing of Ibrahima Konaté to Real Madrid’.

Madrid president Florentino Perez holds the former Paris Saint-Germain striker in high regard and ‘acknowledges the influence he has both on and off the pitch’.

Mbappe’s recommendation to Madrid followed his observation of Konate as a formidable defensive presence during the 1-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield in the Champions League last week.

Described in the report as ‘strong in impact, quick in interception, and possessing qualities that make him one of the best in the world in his position’, Konate is well-regarded.

Konate and Mbappe have a long-standing relationship, having played together for the France national team.

Ibrahima Konate made a lighthearted remark about Kylian Mbappe reaching out to him.

This isn’t the first instance where Spanish media has reported that Mbappe desires for Madrid to acquire Konate.

In October, it was mentioned that Mbappe intended to have a conversation with Konate during the international break to persuade him to join Madrid.

Previously, in September, the Liverpool defender humorously stated in an interview with Telefoot that Mbappe frequently calls him to urge him to leave Liverpool and transfer to Madrid on a free deal in the summer of 2026.

Konate quipped: “He calls me every two hours.”

Madrid is known for utilizing their star players during international breaks to sway their top targets into making a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Earlier this month, Alexander-Arnold commented on Amazon Prime Video Sport: “There was a lot of speculation… the ‘agent Jude’ narrative. It was particularly prevalent in his first season (at Real Madrid).

“We’d gather at England camps, and everyone was eager to learn about the behind-the-scenes experience (at Real Madrid)… he described it as incredible, something he had never encountered before.

“The ambition of the entire club to win and the pressure to succeed. He spoke very highly of the club, and I ultimately decided.

“I needed a change for myself. I was seeking a new challenge both on and off the pitch.”

Konate and Mbappe are members of the France squad for the November international break, and it is highly probable that the latter will reach out to the Liverpool defender… once more.
