After the draw with Vallecano, Real Madrid’s players had disagreements over tactical issues. Could tactics be the current problem for Real?
Mbappé, Vinícius, and Bellingham dissatisfied with Real Madrid’s playing style
After a disappointing draw against Rayo Vallecano in La Liga over the weekend, several key players at Real Madrid expressed their dissatisfaction with the team’s tactical approach. Players directly complained on the pitch to teammates and coaching staff about the system being used.
Young centre‑back Dean Huijsen voiced his frustration: “We are always left with two against one, we need more support.” Meanwhile, Vinícius Júnior disagreed with the long‑ball approach: “Those long passes are unnecessary.” Striker Kylian Mbappé also spoke up about personnel in attack: “When we go forward, we are always short, we’re always outnumbered by one player.”

Arda Güler and Eduardo Camavinga proactively asked the coaching staff about pressing timing and attack organisation, showing the young players’ tactical awareness. They were unclear on when exactly to press to win the ball back.
Both Jude Bellingham and Huijsen even asked goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to stop using long passes when facing Rayo, arguing that it caused Real to lose control of the game.
Despite these outspoken views and dissatisfaction on the pitch, Real Madrid’s internal environment is not shattered. On the contrary, this is seen as a positive sign that players are taking responsibility and are willing to speak up in order to improve the playing style. Coach Xabi Alonso has previously encouraged the squad to share their opinions.
These honest responses after the match with Rayo could become a catalyst that helps Real Madrid become stronger in their pursuit of trophies this season.
