Will McTominay really return to Manchester United? What do you think about this potential move?
Man Utd Preparing to Re-Sign Scott McTominay
Manchester United are showing concrete interest and are preparing an “emotion-laden offer” to re-sign Scott McTominay, after his breakout season at Napoli.
According to journalist Mark Brus of Caught Offside, United are showing “specific interest” and are considering a sensational move to bring McTominay back to Old Trafford. The Red Devils are reportedly ready to correct their mistake of selling the Scottish midfielder to Napoli for around £25 million in August 2024.
The decision to sell McTominay was made under Erik ten Hag, who was later sacked and replaced by Ruben Amorim. Ironically, McTominay enjoyed a stellar debut season, becoming a key factor in Antonio Conte’s Serie A-winning Napoli side — leaving United’s board embarrassed.

McTominay has shone brightly since leaving Man United.
McTominay’s rise in Italy has been remarkable. In his first season, he scored 12 goals and provided 4 assists in 34 Serie A matches. This season, although his form has dipped slightly with 2 goals and 1 assist in 10 appearances, he remains an important part of Napoli’s squad.
Interest in McTominay isn’t limited to Manchester United. Newcastle, Tottenham, and even Barcelona have all shown admiration for the Scottish midfielder. However, the transfer is expected to be extremely difficult, as McTominay is said to be “very happy with life in Italy,” while Napoli are “absolutely unwilling to put him on the market.”
Explaining McTominay’s success, journalist Vincenzo Credendino revealed that Conte changed his role — turning him from a playmaker into a “raider,” maximizing his late runs into the box and goal-scoring instincts, much like Arturo Vidal or Claudio Marchisio at Juventus.
McTominay himself stated that he loves Napoli, the fans, and his teammates, and that he does not regret his decision to move there.
