Arsenal injury update: Latest news and return dates for Viktor Gyokeres, Leandro Trossard, and Kai Havertz.
The Gunners face a new fitness concern as key players approach their return ahead of the Chelsea match.
Arsenal aims to make a significant statement regarding their title ambitions when they face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this Sunday.
Currently, the Gunners hold a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League and are brimming with confidence following impressive victories against Tottenham and Bayern Munich.
A win against second-placed Chelsea would represent another crucial step towards securing the title.
Martin Odegaard made his return from injury in Wednesday’s 3-1 victory over Bayern in the Champions League, but Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz were still unavailable, and Leandro Trossard had to leave the match in the second half.
With this context, here’s the latest on Arsenal’s injury situation and expected return dates…
Viktor Gyokeres
Gyokeres is nearing a return after being sidelined for four weeks due to a hamstring injury.
The £64 million summer acquisition has not played since he was injured against Burnley on November 1, but Mikel Arteta provided a positive update regarding his recovery this week.
Although Gyokeres did not participate in training with the Arsenal squad prior to the Bayern Munich match, Arteta indicated that the striker is close to returning.
When asked about Gyokeres and Havertz, Arteta remarked on Tuesday: “Both are doing really well.
“In the coming days, they will undergo a repeat scan to assess their condition and determine how we can prepare them for the weekend.”
Expected return date: Sunday, November 30, against Chelsea (A)
Leandro Trossard
Trossard raised concerns for Arsenal when he had to exit the game against Bayern.
The in-form forward, who netted the opening goal in last weekend’s 4-1 victory over Tottenham, was substituted after 38 minutes due to what seemed to be a calf injury.
Trossard immediately went down the tunnel after limping off and was replaced by Noni Madueke, who subsequently scored his first goal for Arsenal.
Arteta commented after the match: “Regarding Leo, we are uncertain about [the severity of the injury]. He mentioned that he felt something. We certainly didn’t want to take any chances, of course.”
Potential return date: Unknown
Kai Havertz
Havertz is also close to making a return, having been sidelined since the season’s opening weekend due to a minor procedure on a knee injury.
Germany’s head coach Julian Nagelsmann stated during the recent international break that Havertz experienced a “minor setback” in his recovery, but Arteta has eased concerns about any significant issue.
Similar to Gyokeres, Havertz did not participate in training with the Arsenal squad at the beginning of the week.
However, he is eager to return against his former team Chelsea in the top-of-the-table match on Sunday at Stamford Bridge.
Potential return date: Sunday, November 30, vs Chelsea (A)
Gabriel
Arsenal has been anxious about Gabriel’s fitness since he sustained an adductor injury while representing Brazil at Emirates Stadium during the international break.
Reports have suggested that Gabriel might be unavailable until January, but Arteta confirmed this week that the centre-back is scheduled for another scan on Wednesday, which will provide more clarity on the timeline.
Arteta is expected to give an update on Gabriel during his press conference on Friday ahead of the Chelsea match.
Potential return date: Unknown
Gabriel Jesus
Gabriel Jesus is nearing a return after being out for nearly a year due to a serious knee injury.
Jesus has not played since tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in January, but he is now back in full training and is anticipated to return soon.
The striker may participate in a behind-closed-doors friendly as he intensifies his recovery, and Arteta mentioned last week: “[He is doing] very well.
“He has been training with the team for almost two weeks now.
“We plan to give him some internal game exposure to build his fitness. He looks really sharp in training and will be a significant asset to the team.”
Potential return date: Early December
