Mo Salah’s immediate response to being left on the bench again by Arne Slot reveals a lot.

Arne Slot has revealed how Mohamed Salah reacted after being left on the Liverpool bench for their Premier League match against Sunderland — and his response said a lot.

It was only the second time in Salah’s nine-year Liverpool career that he had been benched in back-to-back games. Just days after being dropped against West Ham, the out-of-form forward was again named among the substitutes as Slot opted for Cody Gakpo, Florian Wirtz, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexander Isak in his starting XI.

Speaking before kick-off, Slot said Salah handled the decision exactly as a top professional should.

“We’re keeping the same team. It’s about maintaining rhythm while keeping players fresh,” Slot explained. “We’ll need the whole squad tonight because not everyone can play a full 90 minutes. Mo is certainly one of the players who could come in and make an impact.”

Slot added that Salah trained well, stayed positive, and continued supporting his teammates — acting as an example even when he’s not playing.

Despite his legendary status at Liverpool, Salah’s form has dipped this season. He has scored just five goals in 18 matches, with his last coming on November 1 against Aston Villa.

Slot admitted at the weekend that it wasn’t ideal to leave Salah out, but insisted the team needed more firepower. With AFCON approaching, he still expects Salah to play a key role in the coming days.
