🔥🏟️Manchester City is looking to replace Pep Guardiola with a Liverpool legend in January.
It’s still uncertain whether Pep Guardiola will sign a contract extension with Manchester City or leave the club this summer.
If he chooses to depart, the club is reportedly considering Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso as his potential successor.
Alonso, 42, has had an impressive run with the Bundesliga team, going unbeaten in the 2023/24 domestic season and coming close to achieving an unbeaten treble.
The Spaniard, already attracting interest from former clubs Liverpool and Real Madrid, has started the 2024/25 season strong with three wins, two draws, and one loss in the Bundesliga, and two consecutive clean-sheet victories in the Champions League.
It wouldn’t be surprising if Manchester City also pursue Alonso, according to a report from the *Daily Mail*.
His expansive and dynamic playing style bears similarities to Guardiola’s City, which could appeal to the club’s leadership as they seek continuity.
Amidst this, City face a challenging period due to the outstanding charges against the club. If found guilty, this could lead to players and managers turning away from the Etihad.
However, as that outcome remains uncertain, City is expected to continue focusing on both on-field and off-field success.
Whether Guardiola extends his stay or passes the torch to Alonso, only time will tell if a new era in Manchester begins under the Spaniard’s leadership.
