The player has asked his agent to hold off on responding to Al-Khelaifi’s offer, as his priority is to move to Barcelona
One of the top players in European football has boldly turned down an offer from Paris Saint-Germain, recently put forward by Nasser Al-Khelaifi, opting instead to join Barcelona.
The ongoing rivalry between Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona over signings in recent years continues unabated, and this time, the contest will be for a world-class player, with both clubs aiming to secure him on a free transfer.
As reported by the Spanish newspaper *El Nacional*, Lille striker Jonathan David is receiving persistent offers to leave his club at the end of the season, taking advantage of his contract expiring on June 30.
David has made it clear that he will not extend his contract, meaning he will become a free agent and can sign with any club without incurring a transfer fee. His outstanding performances in recent months have earned him recognition as one of the best strikers in the game, making him highly sought after by top European teams.
In Paris, David is viewed as a prime target and has garnered support from Luis Enrique, who acknowledges the need to bring in a new striker. Gonzalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani’s roles are not just focused on filling the void if Kylian Mbappé moves to Real Madrid, prompting the club’s leadership to consider signing the Canadian international, who has netted eight goals and provided two assists across all competitions this season. However, David has expressed his preference for a different path.
David is more drawn to Barcelona, where he is on the list of potential signings identified by Joan Laporta and Deco, particularly with 2025 in mind, as Robert Lewandowski’s future remains uncertain. This could push Barcelona to look for a new striker, with David emerging as a possible option.
Barcelona’s scouts have reported that David is fully prepared to take on the responsibility of being the primary striker at Camp Nou. He is inclined to begin a fresh chapter in La Liga rather than remain in Ligue 1, where he has played since joining Lille in 2020. As a result, Laporta and Deco seem to hold the upper hand in the race to secure his signature.
