Erik ten Hag clarifies Manchester United’s decision against securing a loan deal for a striker.
Anthony Martial will be out until April but Man United will not be signing anyone to replace him this month.
Erik ten Hag maintains that Manchester United won’t pursue a loan signing this month, despite their limited options in the forward line. With Anthony Martial sidelined until April and a reduced squad after European exits, the club prioritizes trimming the squad and wage bill in the January transfer window.
Despite loaning out Donny van de Beek, Jadon Sancho, and Hannibal Mejbri, and terminating Sergio Reguilon’s loan, Manchester United still grapple with Anthony Martial’s situation, who is deemed unsellable at the moment.
Manchester United’s hands are tied in the January transfer market due to financial fair play regulations, despite their hefty spending of over £400 million in the last two summer transfer windows.
Manchester United sources have hinted at the possibility of a January signing, but emphasized that any potential move would need to be financially prudent and exceptionally economical.
Ten Hag expressed his desire to strengthen the squad upfront, citing the lack of options in the striker position. However, he highlighted that financial constraints, particularly related to Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations, have limited their ability to make any moves in the transfer market. Despite this, he acknowledged the versatility of players like Rashford, who can deputize in the striker role, and other creative alternatives available to the team.
