WHAT FSG OFFERED JURGEN KLOPP IN DESPERATE PHONE CALL TO CONVINCE HIM TO STAY AT LIVERPOOL

Jurgen Klopp turned down a last-ditch offer from FSG to remain at Liverpool during a phone call.
FSG President Mike Gordon made a last-minute attempt to persuade Jurgen Klopp to stay at Liverpool, but the German ultimately turned down the offer. Klopp has been Liverpool’s manager since 2015 and has achieved nearly every accolade possible, including the club’s first Premier League title.
During his time at the helm, the 56-year-old has guided Liverpool to three Champions League finals, winning one and facing defeat in two. Klopp’s association with Liverpool’s success has become deeply ingrained, and his departure would undoubtedly leave a considerable void, prompting the club to begin the search for a suitable replacement.
According to the latest odds, Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso is the frontrunner for the Liverpool job. With Leverkusen currently leading the Bundesliga without a single loss, Alonso appears to be an ideal candidate to succeed Klopp.
However, despite the buzz surrounding Alonso, the prospect of losing Klopp was challenging for FSG to come to terms with. Initially accepting Klopp’s decision, FSG President Mike Gordon made a final effort to convince Klopp to stay over the phone. Reports suggest that Gordon “offered to open his chequebook and change his mind.”
Although this exchange was reportedly made in a light-hearted manner, it’s difficult to imagine Gordon wouldn’t have pursued the opportunity if Klopp had shown any inclination towards persuasion. Despite the invitation, Klopp dismissed his boss’s tempting, money-no-object “offer” and reiterated that his decision was firm.

Liverpool will not only feel the impact of Jurgen Klopp’s departure but also the exit of his trusted backroom staff. Both Liverpool assistant managers, Pepijn Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, are expected to leave alongside Klopp, along with the club’s elite development coach Vitor Matos.
Furthermore, sporting director Jorg Schmadtke will also bid farewell to Liverpool following the conclusion of the January transfer window in a few days’ time.
