Arne Slot might see one of his Liverpool players depart after falling out of favor at Anfield. A previously overlooked player could be on the move during the January transfer window as Slot seeks to revamp his squad for the remainder of the Premier League campaign.

The 46-year-old manager has made a significant impact at Liverpool since succeeding Jurgen Klopp after the 2023/24 season. The Reds currently lead the Premier League standings, top their 36-team Champions League group, and are in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

However, Slot faced challenges during the summer transfer window, with limited success in securing new additions. Despite efforts to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, Ryan Gravenberch has since excelled in the ‘number six’ position.

Federico Chiesa was the sole summer signing but has struggled to impress, making only four appearances for Slot’s team. Additionally, Liverpool agreed to a deal worth up to £29m (via BBC Sport) for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, though he will not join until the 2025/26 season.

Mamardashvili will bolster a strong goalkeeping lineup featuring Alisson, Caoimhín Kelleher, and third-choice Vitezslav Jaros. However, another goalkeeper could leave Liverpool this January.

Brazilian shot-stopper Marcelo Pitaluga is reportedly considering a move away from his current loan at Scottish Championship club Livingston, as per Liverpool.com. Pitaluga has only made two appearances this season at Livingston.

The 22-year-old, who previously had loan spells at Macclesfield and St Patrick’s Athletic, appears unlikely to break into Liverpool’s squad due to intense competition. Brazilian outlet UOL reports that negotiations are ongoing for a potential return to his former club, Fluminense, during this transfer window.

Pitaluga extended his Liverpool contract in January 2024 and is valued at approximately £166k by Transfermarkt. Reflecting on his loan experiences last November, the goalkeeper shared his perspective.

“It’s about being prepared,” he told Liverpool.com. “Football changes quickly, and you never know when you’ll be needed — Vite is a perfect example. When Ali was injured and Caoimh was unwell, he stepped up. That’s what loans prepare you for.”

He was referencing Jaros, who unexpectedly replaced Alisson during a Premier League match against Crystal Palace in October after the Brazilian sustained an injury.
