A potential price that Liverpool could ‘accept’ for Darwin Nunez has emerged, and fans have been left absolutely stunned.

Nunez, 25, joined Liverpool from Benfica on a six-year deal in June 2022 for an initial £64m, with the fee expected to rise to £85m with add-ons, according to BBC Sport.

However, he has failed to live up to the hefty expectations associated with his arrival.

On Sunday, he was named as a substitute by Arne Slot ahead of the 2-2 draw against Manchester United and was introduced, replacing Luis Diaz for the final 30 minutes of the match.

But he frustrated the Anfield faithful with a lacklustre performance, with his only notable action being a blatant foul on Matthijs de Ligt, which resulted in him being shown a yellow card.

The Uruguayan has scored just four goals in 23 games in all competitions since Slot, 46, arrived at the club. Now that the January transfer window is open, several links away from the club have emerged.

Football Insider’s Peter O’Rouke previously reported interest from Newcastle United, but a deal is unlikely to happen in the winter window.

However, Liverpool are “open to accepting offers of £50-60m” for the forward, as reported by Football Insider.

And fans on social media were quick to give their thoughts on the hefty ‘asking price’.

One fan said: “Honestly he’s not worth that.”

Another added: “Did you add an extra 0 by mistake.”

A third commented: “£50M-£60M for Nunez seems like a tempting deal for any club looking to strengthen their attack. Would love to see where he ends up.”

While a fourth explained: “Might be worth ten at a push.”

As a fifth slammed: “This fraud isnt worth 50m. Maybe 20m best.”

It is still unclear if Liverpool would be willing to let the player leave in the January window. Nunez’s current contract is set to run until June 2028 and he is valued at £54m by Transfermarkt but given the fact he’s netted just 37 times in 120 games for the Reds it is unlikely a club would be willing to pay such a high transfer fee.
