Arsenal faced a tough 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday. The team had a few good chances to score, but poor finishing let them down.
Newcastle made the most of their opportunities, with Alexander Isak playing a key role by scoring and assisting at the Emirates Stadium.
Several Arsenal players underperformed, and Leandro Trossard’s display was particularly disappointing. He struggled in Arsenal’s previous match against Brighton, and things didn’t improve in this Cup game.
Trossard started on the right wing but had a difficult time. His passing accuracy was only 74%, and he lost possession 11 times. He failed to deliver any successful crosses or complete any dribbles, and didn’t even manage a shot on target. It was no surprise when Gabriel Jesus replaced him in the 60th minute.
Trossard received a rating of 5/10 from football.london for his performance.
In our view, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta made a mistake by starting Trossard in this match. He should have been on the bench. Trossard should be dropped for the upcoming FA Cup match against Manchester United on Sunday.
The defeat to Newcastle was a big blow, and Arsenal cannot afford another upset in the FA Cup. We suggest playing Jesus on the right wing and Gabriel Martinelli on the left. Despite missing a clear chance in the last match, Kai Havertz should lead the attack against Manchester United
