🔥🔥Visibly unhappy’: Slot spotted doing something ‘rare’ during Liverpool against Tottenham tonight – journalist
Liverpool played out a strange opening 45 minutes during their Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham on Wednesday.
In the end the two teams actually did battle for 56 minutes, with a worrying looking injury to Rodrigo Bentancur delaying proceedings considerably.
Throughout the almost hour they were out on the pitch at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Liverpool did not look quite right.
Arne Slot made four changes to the team which drew against Manchester United on Sunday, with three changes making the defence look especially disjointed.
There were some good moments towards the end of the half, but by and large the Reds were well below their best.
And having seen his team disappoint for large chunks, Slot was spotted doing something ‘rare’ on the touchline with the Liverpool coaching staff.
Arne Slot not happy with Liverpool display
Following on from a sluggish performance against United, Slot had little reason to be happy with his team’s last game-and-a-half.
The Dutchman would have been to see a response from that United outing but did not get it initially in North London.
And according to BBC Sport journalist Phil McNulty Slot was showing his frustration on the touchline during the opening 45 minutes.
“Liverpool head coach Arne Slot is normally a calm figure in his technical area and has rarely had any cause to express his displeasure this season,” McNulty mused at half-time.
“But he is visibly unhappy with aspects of this display so far.
“He has just turned around to his backroom staff in disgust after another sloppy passage of play. A rare sight in this campaign.”
Michael Dawson unimpressed by ‘sloppy’ Liverpool
As well as Slot being disappointed with Liverpool, former Spurs centre-back Michael Dawson was also left bemused by what he’d seen.
Speaking to Sky Sports at the break, Dawson lamented a ‘sloppy’ performance from the Reds.
“Liverpool have been so slopy, it’s surprised me,” he said. “I’ve not seen them like this this season.”
In reality, Slot’s team have of course had games where they haven’t quite been at it. It is also never an easy place to go, despite Tottenham’s mixed form and injury problems.
So, while they may not have been at their best – and Slot was right to be displeased – we’ve seen worse from Liverpool this season.
