FA make decision on charging Man Utd over social media post made after Arsenal win
On Sunday night, Manchester United faced Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup at the Emirates Stadium. Ruben Amorim’s side kept their composure and secured a victory in a tense penalty shootout. The match saw Arsenal’s Kai Havertz miss a crucial penalty after his effort was saved by United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir.
Following the game, United’s official social media account posted the word “Justice,” which quickly went viral. Many fans speculated that the post referred to the controversial penalty decision awarded to Arsenal. Harry Maguire was deemed to have fouled Havertz in the box, but replays suggested minimal contact.
Despite the speculation, the English FA has decided not to take any action regarding the social media post. Martyn Ziegler of *The Times* reported: “FA will NOT be taking disciplinary action against Man Utd over this tweet following FA Cup win over Arsenal.”
The winning penalty was scored by Joshua Zirkzee, sending Manchester United into the fourth round, where they will host Leicester City at Old Trafford.
After the match, Amorim expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance. He said: “We had the feeling that everything in the end would be okay – I felt that since the beginning of the second half. Even after the penalty, I felt that, and I think the Arsenal team maybe felt that today wouldn’t be their day.
“But I’m really pleased for the way we controlled the game without the ball, and with set-pieces, we were really strong.” He added: “The spirit was there even with 10 men. I think the connection between the team on the pitch and the fans outside was a really good thing to feel. I think we are improving on that and I think that is the base of everything.”
The match ended 1-1 after 120 minutes, with goals from Bruno Fernandes and Gabriel Magalhaes. Manchester United now turns their attention to the Premier League, where they will face bottom-side Southampton on Thursday night at Old Trafford.
