Liverpool may finalize their last signing under Jurgen Klopp as they aim to acquire a promising wonderkid for €20 million.

Liverpool is gearing up for life after Jurgen Klopp as he is set to depart at the end of the current season. Despite Klopp’s impending departure, the club could reportedly secure one more signing before his exit. Klopp’s announcement last month surprised many, but he aims to finish his successful tenure at Anfield on a high note, with Liverpool still competing in multiple competitions. The focus within the club has shifted to finding Klopp’s successor, with Bayer Leverkusen manager and former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso among the top contenders to take over at Anfield.

In terms of transfers, Klopp will depart leaving behind a team that requires relatively minimal improvements, thanks to the solid recruitment of first-team players during his tenure at Anfield.

However, one potential concern could be squad depth, as injuries have left Klopp with a thin bench for Liverpool’s recent 3-1 defeat against Arsenal. According to reports from Italian outlet Calciomercato, Liverpool has taken steps to address their lack of defensive depth.

Reportedly, Liverpool has inquired about signing 19-year-old Lecce wonderkid Patrick Dorgu. Dorgu, a Danish youth international, joined Lecce from Nordsjaelland last summer after playing for their U19 side the previous season. He made headlines by scoring the winning goal in Lecce’s recent 3-2 victory over Fiorentina in Serie A, helping his team climb to 13th place in the Italian top division. Lecce is said to be seeking over €20 million for the versatile youngster, who is capable of playing further forward on the left flank.

Dorgu has featured in 19 Serie A matches this season, starting seven of them. Reports suggest that Lecce’s president is excited about the possibility of selling him, with Liverpool already showing interest and discussing potential costs for negotiations. Atletico Madrid is also reportedly interested in the player. Although any potential move would officially occur in the summer, negotiations could take place in the months leading up to the transfer window opening. This raises the possibility that Dorgu’s signing could serve as a “goodbye present” from Klopp, although nothing is certain yet.
