The win kept Liverpool six points clear of second-placed Arsenal with one game in hand.

 

 

 

Arne Slot’s side are back in action on Wednesday night when they travel to the Netherlands to take on PSV Eindhoven in the final group game of the Champions League. Liverpool have already confirmed their place in the knockout stages of the competition.

 

 

 

Away from on the pitch matters, the January transfer window remains open which means that new arrivals and exits could still happen before next week’s deadline. Liverpool continue to be linked with players, including Milos Kerkez and Jamie Gittens, while there is still talk over the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mo Salah.

Mohamed Salah negotiations

 

 

 

Egyptian outlet Masrawy say that Mohamed Salah has turned down the latest offer of contract extension at Liverpool.

 

 

 

According to the report, the player wishes to commit his future for at least two, perhaps even three years, though the Reds’ policy is to cautiously carry out such business with those entering or already in their 30’s.

 

 

 

With Salah in particular, offering a multi-year deal with the same terms he is already on is the stumbling block right now.

 

 

 

Night to forget for Mamardashvili

 

 

 

Liverpool will have one arrival in 2025, that is a guarantee. Thanks to the deal made last year, goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is on his way from Valencia in the summer.

Adeyemi hijack

 

 

 

According to Corriere dello Sport via TEAMtalk, Liverpool could scupper Napoli’s hopes of signing Karim Adeyemi by making their own move for the Borussia Dortmund attacker this month.

 

 

 

The report claims the Reds are watching the German star with a view of capitalising on the situation. However, it is not specificed whether they would wish to begin their assault this month or in the summer.

 

 

 

Napoli have also been linked with a move for Man United’s Alejandro Garnacho, though appear to have been priced out after a first bid was made.

 

 

 

Tottenham handed fresh injury concern

 

 

 

Tottenham have been handed a fresh injury worry as Richarlison was forced off during their 2-1 home defeat to Leicester.

 

 

 

“Richarlison was feeling his groin, he had to come off, I should have took him off at half-time and he wasn’t running out,” said Postecoglou.

Alan Shearer: Alexander Isak in the same league as Salah and Haaland

 

 

 

Alan Shearer has hailed Alexander Isak as “magnificent” and believes the Newcastle United forward is one of three “world-class” forwards in the Premier League.

 

 

 

Sweden international Isak scored his 16th and 17th goals of the Premier League season on Saturday afternoon as the Magpies came from behind to beat Southampton 3-1 and continue their remarkable run of form in 2025.

 

 

 

The 25-year-old is on course for his most prolific season in English football since signing for Newcastle from Borussia Dortmund two-and-a-half years ago.

 

 

 

And Shearer believes Isak, whose goals have Eddie Howe’s side on course for a return to the Champions League next season, can now be considered in the same class as Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah.

 

 

 

Analysing Isak’s performance in Saturday’s 3-1 triumph, Shearer told Match of the Day: “His all-round game is magnificent. He is creating so many opportunities, getting shots away. His first touch is fantastic.

While a 4-1 victory over Premier League strugglers Ipswich Town is unlikely to be regarded as a highlight of Liverpool’s season come May, it was a landmark day for Virgil van Dijk. The Reds captain became the 65th player in the club’s history to reach 300 appearances.

 

 

 

Out of contract at the end of the season, it remains unclear how many more outings there will be for the 33-year-old. Liverpool face 16 more Premier League fixtures this season, and are guaranteed to play at least three times more in the Champions League and once each in both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

 

 

 

With Arne Slot’s men pursuing multiple honours, they will hope their commitments extend beyond that.

 

 

 

A quadruple charge to the end would see 31 fixtures remaining and extend their campaign to 65 matches.

 

 

 

But ever the consummate professional, Van Dijk is inevitably only ever thinking about the next game.

 

 

 

He remains in the dark about his future as his contract saga continues, but that would not make his answer any different. While the Reds might be in pursuit of multiple honours, again, the public line is, has been and will always be they only take it one game at a time.

Speaking after his side’s 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest, Iraola said: “I think we are not going to change. We are taking the games game by game. We have Liverpool next. I will not change the approach we are taking.”

Arne Slot sends ‘unbelievable’ Wataru Endo message after Liverpool midfielder poleaxed

 

 

 

Arne Slot refused to bemoan the decision not to send off Ipswich Town’s Julio Enciso for poleaxing Wataru Endo as the Liverpool boss reflected on a comfortable 4-1 win at Anfield.

 

 

 

Cody Gakpo scored twice after Mohamed Salah had doubled the advantage from Dominik Szoboszlai’s opener but the Reds were denied a clean sheet through Jacob Greaves’s late header.

 

 

 

Substitute Endo needed treatment from the physios after fellow sub Enciso launched into a dangerous challenge on the Japan captain in the second half. The on-loan Brighton winger was only shown a yellow card by referee Michael Salisbury.

“Yeah, when the foul was made, I was like: ‘Oh that doesn’t look good’,” Slot said. “And the reaction from the players that were around him showed me and I was like: ‘Oh let’s wait and see’.

 

 

 

“But after the game, Wata, immediately during the game already, he just shakes his head one or two times and just goes again. His mentality is unbelievable and he was fine. So it was only a yellow so I assume that the fear I had was not realistic because it was only a yellow.

 

 

 

“In general, I don’t think referees act like that (no red card because it wasn’t a close game) because if they do so, they hear it from the people above them: ‘You have to do what is necessary’. I assume it was a yellow, I haven’t watched it back but

 

Liverpool-linked defender ‘spotted’ at Anfield

 

Eagle-eyed Liverpool supporters believe Ajax defender Jorrel Hato was in attendance at Anfield for Saturday’s 4-1 win over Ipswich Town.

 

 

 

Photos widely shared on social media show an individual, believed to be Hato, in the stands at Anfield.

 

 

 

And if that wasn’t enough evidence, one of Hato’s friends shared a snap of Anfield during the Premier League clash.

 

Dutch international Hato has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent months.
