LIVERPOOL
DEVASTATING NEWS: Terrible news has just arrived for Liverpool this afternoon..

Arne Slot has previously suggested the possibility of strengthening Liverpool’s squad in the summer, a scenario that seems even more likely following the club’s lack of activity in the January transfer window.
With the Reds competing for a historic 20th English top-flight title and emerging as serious contenders in the Champions League, additions could be necessary. The physical and mental strain of challenging on all fronts this season, along with the need to sustain a winning mentality within the squad, makes summer reinforcements a realistic option.
One player who could resurface as a target for Liverpool after the 2024/25 campaign is attacking midfielder Xavi Simons, who has been linked with the club before.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Simons has, however, become significantly more difficult, as RB Leipzig has agreed to a £66.9m deal for the Dutchman. That being said, Fabrizio Romano’s latest update on X (formerly Twitter) indicates that the 21-year-old’s future in Germany is still unresolved, leaving room for potential changes.
Even if Liverpool decided to pursue him, they would likely need to offer a fee greater than the £66.9m Leipzig has agreed to pay PSG.
As the next transfer window approaches, Liverpool will have clear priorities to focus on. The fullback positions could be an area of concern, particularly depending on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation, while the centre-forward role may need reinforcement depending on Darwin Núñez’s performances.
Additionally, the search for a long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk at left-sided centre-back remains unresolved, and right-wing additions might be necessary if Mohamed Salah does not renew his contract.
That already presents a considerable workload for Richard Hughes and his recruitment team before even considering any opportunistic signings the club might explore. Simons would likely fall into that latter category—a versatile attacking midfielder with experience playing on both wings.
At just 21 years old, the Dutch international has already demonstrated his immense ability, delivering another strong season in the Bundesliga with nine goal contributions in 17 matches.
A player worth keeping an eye on!
