Why Isn’t Marc Guiu Getting More Chances at Chelsea? Maresca Responds

Chelsea are actively searching for a new striker to relieve some of the burden on Nicolas Jackson, who has failed to score in his last seven Premier League games. The Blues have been linked with targets such as Brighton’s Evan Ferguson, but many fans are questioning why Marc Guiu is not being given more chances.
Guiu, signed as a backup forward, has struggled for playing time despite Jackson’s struggles in front of goal. Many had hoped he would step up, yet he has only been afforded brief appearances.
Enzo Maresca was asked about Guiu’s situation during a recent press conference. Has the young striker done enough to earn more minutes?
“Marc is improving a lot, to be honest. He is doing fantastic. Day by day, he is getting more and more ready for that sort of game,” Maresca stated.
However, he was quick to add:
“Sometimes the decision is because I see something, and sometimes it is good, sometimes it is not. For sure, Marc, I think day after day, he is more ready.”
While Maresca’s response was encouraging, it did little to suggest that Guiu will see increased game time in the near future. The manager refrained from making any commitments while still acknowledging the striker’s progress.
Chelsea’s upcoming match against West Ham presents an opportunity for Guiu, and many supporters are hoping he gets a chance. However, based on Maresca’s comments, it seems unlikely that he will feature for more than a few minutes, if at all.
Maresca also provided insight into what to expect from Graham Potter’s West Ham team, stating:
“They are very aggressive. I watched four or five games with Graham in charge. You can see they are trying to be very aggressive, even in the last game against Aston Villa. It will be a tough game, like always.”
With Chelsea preparing to face a high-intensity West Ham side, this could be an ideal moment for Guiu to make his mark. Whether Maresca will take that risk, however, remains uncertain.
For now, Chelsea continue their pursuit of a new striker, but the solution to their attacking concerns might already be within their squad—if they choose to give Guiu a real opportunity.
