Xabi Alonso could block two Man Utd signings and boost Liverpool in the process

If Xabi Alonso joins Liverpool, Manchester United might not be able to recruit two players in the summer.
The MEN reports that United is still keeping an eye on Edmond Tapsoba and Jeremie Frimpong, two Bayer Leverkusen defenders.
Right-back Frimpong and center-back Tapsoba were linked to United in the summer before starting their amazing, so far unbeaten season at Leverkusen under Alonso.
In Leverkusen’s 3-0 triumph over championship rivals Bayern Munich on Saturday night, Tabsoba got the start, and Frimpong came off the bench to score the game’s last goal in injury time.
According to MEN, United had talks with Frimpong’s agents last year, but the Old Trafford team decided to postpone a move for the right defender after Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s improved play and Diogo Dalot’s contract extension.
With Wan-Bissaka’s contract expiring in just 18 months and his potential summer sale, United is expected to be shopping for a replacement right-back.
Leverkusen’s Tapsoba, who is contracted there until 2028, is reportedly attracting interest from United as well. The team wants to add a youthful, athletic centre half to their roster before the upcoming campaign.
However, if Alonso signs with Liverpool at the end of the season, a move for either might be derailed.
The bookies had the Spaniard, who was an Anfield player from 2004 to 2009, as the favourite to succeed Jurgen Klopp in the summer after he led Leverkusen from the Bundesliga cellar to the top in less than two seasons.

If he decides to sign with Liverpool, he should be able to persuade Tapsoba and Frimpong of the advantages of playing for the Reds over their Premier League opponents.
After it was announced that Klopp would be leaving, Alonso was questioned about his plans to play for Liverpool the following season.
Alonso was quick to state that he was content at Leverkusen, although he did not explicitly rule out moving to Anfield in the future.
“At the moment I’m really happy here, I’m enjoying my work,” he stated. “Here in Leverkusen, we are embarking on a wonderful journey amidst daily challenges.” To be very honest, I’m not in the right frame of mind to consider what to do next. I’m reflecting on my current location.”
