Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has called on his squad to offer greater support to Cole Palmer, who has been struggling to score in recent weeks. The young forward, a key figure for Chelsea this season, has failed to find the net in his last six matches and appeared frustrated during the 1-0 loss to Aston Villa over the weekend.

Since his transfer from Manchester City in the summer of 2023, Palmer has been Chelsea’s most dangerous attacking player, tallying 14 goals and six assists this season. However, his recent dip in form has been evident, with his last goal coming in the 2-2 draw against Bournemouth. He has also gone 13 games without registering an assist, despite creating multiple opportunities for his teammates.

Maresca has previously dismissed claims that Chelsea rely too much on Palmer, yet it is clear that much of the team’s attacking responsibility rests on his shoulders. With Chelsea struggling for consistency, Maresca believes the entire squad must step up to support their star performer.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Southampton, Maresca emphasized that he is not concerned about Palmer’s form, pointing out that fluctuations in performance are normal over the course of a season.

“I’m not concerned about Cole,” Maresca stated. “He is a human being, and over the season, there are periods when he finds it more difficult. The issue is that we depend on him for everything.

“I’ve said from the beginning that we need to rely on the team, not just one player. We need key players like Cole, but we have no worries about him. He is just frustrated because we are not winning matches.”

Despite Chelsea’s difficulties, reports indicate that Palmer’s contract does not include an exit clause, meaning he cannot leave even if the club fails to secure a Champions League spot. However, Chelsea will be eager for him to regain his scoring touch quickly as they push for a strong end to the campaign.

Against Southampton, the Blues will need a convincing display, and Maresca will hope Palmer breaks his goal drought to help lead the team to victory.
