Alexander Isak makes final decision on Liverpool move after meeting with Newcastle PIF delegation

We are just days away from the window slamming shut and Alexander Isak has made his feelings clear about a move to Liverpool after representatives from Newcastle spoke to the player at his home.

Ahead of Monday’s clash between Newcastle and Liverpool, Isak spoke to a Public Investment Fund delegation, along with Newcastle co-owner Jamie Reuben, about his future at St James’ Park.

Earlier this month, the Magpies rejected a formal £110 million offer from reigning Premier League champions Liverpool for the wantaway striker – a decision that is said to have irked Isak.

In fact, the 25-year-old released a statement claiming Newcastle had broken promises to him amid links of a British-record transfer to Anfield.

“Promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time,” he said. “To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading. When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue.”

A week later and Isak has once again made his stance clear on the situation – he wants to leave Newcastle United before the window slams shut and has repeated his desire to join Liverpool.

That’s according to a new report from The Telegraph, who claim Isak is seemingly determined to remain on strike until he gets a move, having missed previous games against Aston Villa and Liverpool.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are reportedly ready to make a second offer after their opening bid was rejected, but are ‘waiting for encouragement from the Newcastle board’ before proceeding.

The report adds: “However, it is understood Liverpool are unwilling to make another offer if there is no hope of it being accepted and will not pay anything close to Newcastle’s £150 million asking price.”

Newcastle refute Isak’s claims about “promises” being made

As things stand, Newcastle are refusing to sanction the transfer.

Last week, in response to Isak’s statement, Newcastle stated they were “disappointed” with the player.

“We are clear in response that Alex remains under contract and that no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer,” they said.

“We want to keep our best players, but we also understand players have their own wishes and we listen to their views.

“As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always take into consideration the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our supporters in all decisions and we have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired.”

The statement added: “We do not foresee those conditions being met. This is a proud football club with proud traditions and we strive to retain our family feel. Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates.”
