🚨🚨Real Madrid newcomer Mastantuono breaks Maradona’s unique record in Argentina – with help from Messi and Scaloni

The Argentina national team have lost for the first time in seven matches in the final round of 2026 World Cup qualifying, falling 0–1 to Ecuador. Although this did not prevent the Albiceleste from finishing first in the table, it also allowed them to update a record previously held by the legendary Diego Maradona.
This achievement was made by Real Madrid newcomer Franco Mastantuono, who came on in the 62nd minute but could not make a tangible impact on the game. Interestingly, the conditions for his historic record were not related to on-field performance at all.

The focus was on the jersey number Franco wore – number 10. Usually reserved for Lionel Messi, it was worn this time by the 18-year-old talent. This was due to the decision not to risk the iconic winger’s health in a match that had no competitive stakes.
Moreover, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni confirmed that the number 10 was initially intended for Thiago Almada, but he also did not play for the same reason as Messi.

As a result, Mastantuono was able to break Maradona’s record and become the youngest player to wear the number 10 for Argentina. Franco achieved this at 18 years and 27 days old, while Diego had held the record at 18 years, 9 months, and 3 days.
A historic debut for the young Albiceleste winger.
