Liverpool Open Informal Talks to Sign Real Madrid Star Rodrygo Goes
Liverpool have taken their first steps toward a major January move, opening informal communication to explore the possibility of signing 24-year-old Real Madrid attacker Rodrygo Goes.
According to CaughtOffside, Arne Slot and his recruitment team are preparing for a serious squad reinforcement after a disappointing start to the season. Despite heavy investment in their forward line during the summer, the club is already seeking another top-level attacking addition.
Rodrygo has emerged as a key alternative target after Liverpool encountered complications in their pursuit of Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo — their original priority.
Semenyo Pursuit Complicated by Manchester City Interest
Liverpool view Semenyo as an ideal signing, especially with Mohamed Salah underperforming this season and preparing to join Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations early next year. His directness and versatility make him the perfect stylistic fit.
However, the deal has become increasingly difficult as Manchester City have now entered the race, with Pep Guardiola’s side reportedly willing to trigger Semenyo’s £65m release clause.
City’s involvement has forced Liverpool to look elsewhere.
Liverpool Turn Toward Rodrygo
Rodrygo is seen as one of the strongest alternatives available on the market. The Brazilian international has experienced reduced minutes under Xabi Alonso this season, leaving him frustrated and open to reconsidering his future ahead of the winter transfer window.
Liverpool believe this presents a rare opportunity to sign a proven world-class forward capable of playing across the frontline, offering both creativity and goals.
The Reds have already made informal contact with the player’s camp to gauge his interest in a potential move. If talks continue positively, Liverpool are expected to prepare a formal proposal.
Whether Real Madrid will be willing to negotiate his departure remains the biggest question as January approaches.
