The football community was shocked to learn that Jurgen Klopp would be leaving his position as manager of Liverpool at the end of the current campaign. Many coaches are already thinking about taking over at Anfield.

After nine years in command, Klopp will step down this summer, and Liverpool is already thinking about his successor. Club legend Xabi Alonso is thought to be the front-runner for the position.

After taking over the German team in 2022 and competing for the Bundesliga title this season, questions are already starting to arise as to whether Alonso would be willing to leave Leverkusen so quickly.

Alonso is reportedly debating whether it’s too soon to go for the Liverpool or Real Madrid position, to which he has also been connected. A lot will probably rely on whether Leverkusen can preserve their point lead over Bayern Munich.

Zinedine Zidane is Liverpool’s “plan B,” and while Alonso is reportedly the team’s top candidate to succeed Klopp, the source also notes that “all eyes point to the same objective” and that “a backup is also being considered.”

According to reports, Zidane’s interest in the position has already been assessed by Liverpool representatives. The Frenchman is reportedly “tempted” by the prospect of joining a “solid project” and being able to add a player of his choosing to the team.

Zidane’s Premier League concerns

After leaving Real Madrid in 2021, Zidane has not been employed. over his four years there, he won 11 titles, including three Champions Leagues, over two separate stints.

During his three-year break, the former Juventus midfield player is said to have turned down offers from Manchester United among other teams; returning to his boyhood team, Marseille, is reputedly the only position for which he would consider returning to management.

Because of his poor command of the English language, Zidane is rumoured to be hesitant about joining the Premier League. The French star is worried that he won’t be able to effectively communicate his instructions to his players.

Moving to Liverpool, meanwhile, would be an intriguing alternative, though a lot would depend on Alonso’s decision on his own future, which he won’t make until the end of the season, providing Zidane with plenty of time to think things through.
