Fans left horrified by Matheus Nunes’ injury during Man City vs Copenhagen
The injury to Matheus Nunes during Manchester City’s game against FC Copenhagen has shocked the fans.
City hosted Copenhagen at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night in an attempt to hold onto their 3-1 lead from the first leg.
After ten minutes, Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez’s strikes put Pep Guardiola’s team up 2-0.
Erling Haaland scored City’s third goal shortly before halftime, after Mohamed Elyounoussi had made it 2-1 in the 29th minute.
Nunes was replaced in the second half following a terrible finger injury.
With 74 minutes remaining, Micah Hamilton took the place of the Portuguese.
One admirer posted on social media in response to Nunes’ injury, saying, “Oh my f**king god Nunes’s finger.”
Someone else tweeted: “How can I turn off a picture? I’ve seen enough pictures of Nunes.
“THAT VIEW OF NUNES’ FINGER,” a third admirer commented. Oh my god, that was just awful.
“OH MY GOD WHAT HAPPENED TO NUNES’ FINGER,” wrote another commenter.
A fifth commented: “Oh my god Nunes that’s horrific.”
In the end, City managed to win 3-1 on the evening and 6-2 overall as they proceed with their Champions League defence.
Former Liverpool and England defender Stephen Warnock stated on BBC Radio 5 Live: “A really comfortable night for Manchester City.” The first leg never put the game in risk.
“The only drawback I have with Pep Guardiola is this.” He has three young players on the bench, so this is the ideal opportunity to get them onto the pitch and get some playing time.
The same evening, Real Madrid, the dominant team in Spanish La Liga, also guaranteed their spot in the final eight with a 1-1 draw against RB Leipzig at Santiago Bernabeu. Madrid won the match 2-1 overall.
City’s attention will now be on this weekend’s tantalising Premier League matchup at Anfield versus Liverpool.
