Thiago Alcantara, a midfielder for Liverpool, is apparently expected to leave the team at the end of the current campaign because his contract is up, according to Neil Jones via CaughtOffside. Alcantara has struggled to live up to expectations ever since moving from Bayern Munich to Liverpool in 2020. This problem has been made worse by a history of injury setbacks. Throughout his time at Anfield, these ailments have severely limited his playing time and effectiveness on the pitch.

During the summer transfer window, Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, and Ryan Gravenberch were added to the team, giving Liverpool’s midfield more depth and skill.

The team’s strong play has helped them climb to the top of the Premier League standings. The Reds defeated Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final to win the trophy as well. Liverpool has also demonstrated their desire on several fronts by moving on to the FA Cup quarterfinals and the UEFA Europa League final 16.

Even with the addition of fresh players to Liverpool’s midfield, Thiago Alcantara has had difficulty getting consistent playing time this year. Prior to suffering a muscular injury, the Spanish midfielder had only made one appearance, substituting in the loss against Arsenal.

Alcantara’s departure from Anfield seems inevitable given the rumours surrounding Liverpool’s possible summer transfer window activity. Neil Jones of CaughtOffside recently wrote that the team is unlikely to look for midfield reinforcements given their current roster.
