Takehiro Tomiyasu’s future at Arsenal has been updated by Fabrizio Romano, who stated that the Japan international’s contract negotiations are currently progressing well.

Despite not always being a guaranteed starter, Tomiyasu has proven to be a valuable member of Mikel Arteta’s team during his tenure at the Emirates Stadium, stepping in admirably in a variety of positions.

Serie A teams have shown interest in Tomiyasu, but it appears Arsenal was never eager to let him go and are now preparing to lock down the 25-year-old to a new deal that will come with a wage increase, as Romano revealed in an exclusive interview with CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing column.

Tomiyasu appears to be a reliable defensive player who can contribute significantly to the team when healthy and available. The Gunners may have missed him last season as he was limited to just 21 Premier League matches overall. Arsenal supporters will undoubtedly be happy to hear this news.

“Discussions between Arsenal and Takehiro Tomiyasu are advancing to the final stages as he looks set to sign a new contract at the Emirates Stadium very soon,” Romano added, speaking about Tomiyasu’s circumstances and connections to Italian clubs.
