Jurgen Klopp slams non-penalty decision as Liverpool draw with Man City

In their 1-1 draw with Manchester City, Jurgen Klopp was sure that Liverpool should have been given a late penalty.

With ten games remaining, Liverpool and City fought off a thrilling 1-1 draw at Anfield on Sunday, keeping the Premier League title race very close.

After City dominated the first few minutes, John Stones’ well-placed shot from Kevin De Bruyne’s corner gave them the lead.

After Ederson fouled Darwin Nunez, Alexis Mac Allister scored from the penalty spot to tie the score. Liverpool appeared to be a different team in the second half.

Despite dominating the remainder of the match, Liverpool was unable to score a second goal, however Klopp thought his team should have had another chance from 12 yards out.

In the 99th minute, Jeremy Doku caught Mac Allister with a high foot inside the penalty box, but Michael Oliver’s on-field decision to award a “no penalty” was happily accepted by the Video Assistant Referee.

After the game, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp expressed his dissatisfaction with the choice in an interview with Sky Sports.

“Isn’t it [VAR] there for just making the right decision, and not thinking about how high the bar is to overturn and find the right decision?,” When asked why VAR didn’t advise the referee to alter his ruling, Klopp responded.

“It is 100% a foul in this instance and all other situations on the pitch. It’s a yellow card and a 100 percent foul.

“His foot is right there [so high], which is why he was only able to hit the ball.” He kills him if the ball isn’t there.

“For all football people on the planet it’s a penalty!”

Despite the frustrating end to the game, Klopp was delighted with his team’s performance in his final Premier League clash with City.

“That’s the best performance we’ve made in a second half against City.

“It’s unbelievable, the game the boys played in teh second half was absolutely exceptional.”
