Mohamed Salah makes Liverpool history in Europa League rout over Sparta Praha

When Liverpool defeated Sparta Praha in the Europa League at Anfield, Mohamed Salah created history.

Within fifteen minutes of the second leg of their Europa League round of sixteen match, Liverpool led Sparta Praha 4-0 and had a 9-1 aggregate advantage.

At the end of the first half, the Prague team scored a goal back to give the travelling supporters something to cheer about at 4-1.

The Reds’ third goal, which was scored by club talisman Mohamed Salah and gave the Egyptian a piece of history, was the most noteworthy goal of the match.

By scoring, Salah made history as the only player from Liverpool to ever record 20 goals in a season in all competitions seven times.

With almost 206 goals in 336 Liverpool games, Salah is ranked fifth on the team’s all-time scoring list.

Far ahead of the Egyptian is Roger Hunt (285), Gordon Hodgson (241) and Billy Liddell (228). Ian Rush holds the club record for most goals scored, having netted 346 goals for the Merseyside team.

But with Salah entering the last 18 months of his contract at Anfield, his future there is still up for debate.

Al Ittihad of the Saudi Pro League made a verbal offer of £150 million to Liverpool for the winger’s services last summer, but the latter has been heavily projected to rekindle their interest in the player in the upcoming transfer window.

Salah, on the other hand, has maintained that his personal future will not be impacted by the upcoming departure of Jurgen Klopp.

Speaking to Sky Sports pundit and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, Salah said: “No. It’s part of life now, that everything moves. Players have left already, very important players. The manager is also very important for the club and is leaving.

“One day I will leave the club, but no [Klopp leaving doesn’t affect my future].”
