Mo Salah makes history against Manchester United with achievement no player has ever done

When Mo Salah of Liverpool gave his team the lead against Manchester United this afternoon, he created history.

The FA Cup quarterfinal between the two most successful English football teams and bitter rivals in the North West will take place at Old Trafford, with a trip to Wembley up for grabs.

Liverpool has won the fabled old trophy eight times, while United has won it twelve times. Both teams hope to increase their total this season.

In Jurgen Klopp’s last season at Anfield, Liverpool is aiming for as many trophies as possible, while United’s only realistic silverware hope is the FA Cup.

After Caoimhin Kelleher parried Alejandro Garnacho’s attempt, the ball fell to Scotland international Scott McTominay, who scored from close range to give hosts United the greatest possible start.

Liverpool entered the match after United, who had a great start, failed to score a second goal in the first half.

When Salah was signalled offside, Wataru Endo felt he had equalised, but the goal was disallowed.

However, Liverpool kept gaining momentum, and just before halftime, a deflected shot by Alexis Mac Allister tied the game.

The Anfield team then took the lead in stoppage time when Andre Onana made a great save against Darwin Nunez, allowing Salah to score from close range. This gave Liverpool a 2-1 lead at the break after they had come back from behind.

Since moving to Anfield from Roma in 2017, Salah has scored the most goals against United, with this goal being his 13th goal overall for Liverpool against the Old Trafford team.

And he made football history with the goal that gave Liverpool the lead at the break, becoming the first player to score in five straight away games versus United.

It’s not easy to score in a single match versus United at Old Trafford, but it’s extremely amazing to do so five times in a row as an opponent.
