Liverpool fan leaps to the defence of Cody Gakpo after footage of game-changing moment vs Man Utd emerges
A Liverpool supporter has jumped to Cody Gakpo’s rescue following the reappearance of video showing a pivotal moment during an FA Cup matchup with Manchester United.
On Sunday, stoppage time in extra time saw Amad Diallo’s goal give United a thrilling 4-3 FA Cup victory over Liverpool.
After taking the lead in both the 87th and 112th minutes of normal time and extra time, Jurgen Klopp’s team was just minutes away from advancing to the semifinals. However, United twice tied the score before pulling off an incredible comeback.
Following the match, Liverpool supporters took to social media to lament their multiple chances to close off the match in the second half.
Gakpo has been the target of a lot of criticism when it seemed like the Dutchman wasted a five-against-two counterattack in the 78th minute.
Gakpo has received a lot of flak for releasing the ball too slowly. The United players were able to retake their positions because the pass he eventually sent to Harvey Elliott was under-hit.
One Liverpool fan, however, jumped to Gakpo’s defence after reviewing the lost chance.
Nubaid Haroon, a broadcaster and fan of Liverpool, wrote on X, a social networking platform that was formerly known as Twitter, saying: “If Bradley overlaps – Elliott plays it early into Gakpo to shoot first time – we’re not talking about this situation.”
“This isn’t available on Gakpo. I feel bad for him since he’s not performing well and lacks confidence. Are his critics attacking him on social media, though? utterly unacceptable

“Yeah there’s that too, the timing was a little off but the more he drives into space the more he becomes reliant on other players making runs into the right spaces and then having to execute a harder pass,” Haroon said in response to a fan who insisted that Gakpo should have committed Victor Lindelof into making a challenge before playing the pass.
Haroon responded, “Angle of the pass is harder to close his foot on and play it to his left,” in response to a suggestion made by someone else that Gakpo had played it to the incorrect player, leaving Darwin Nunez open to score. Cody is generally quite normal and plays most things to his right side. In any case, he would also be placing Nunez to his left.
“I think he plays it to Harvey Elliott, Connor Bradley overlaps and the angle opens up.”
