Fabrizio Romano unveils the “front-runner” for the Liverpool managerial position following Jurgen Klopp’s remarks on Roberto de Zerbi.

Fabrizio Romano has disclosed the “slight favorite” for the Liverpool managerial position.

Following Liverpool’s narrow 2-1 victory over Brighton on Sunday, Jurgen Klopp shared a warm embrace with his Brighton counterpart, Roberto de Zerbi, in the Anfield tunnel.

Klopp, whose team reclaimed the top spot in the Premier League, subsequently commended De Zerbi, amidst reports that the Italian is one of the front-runners to succeed the German at Anfield next season.

“I told De Zerbi to keep turning the football world upside down,” Klopp revealed to BBC Radio 5 Live. “I will watch it from some distance. I respect so much what he’s doing.”

“It’s incredible what he has achieved. Brighton has faced challenges with injuries and player departures, yet he manages to build a team like that. An outstanding job.”

Klopp’s remarks sparked speculation among Liverpool fans, with many pondering whether he was hinting at his potential successor.

However, transfer expert Romano has reaffirmed that Sporting manager Bruno Amorim remains the front-runner for the Merseyside job. He added that Bayern Munich could potentially be De Zerbi’s next destination.

In discussions about the Liverpool manager situation, Romano informed Caught Offside: “Despite the speculation linking De Zerbi as Klopp’s successor, I continue to emphasize my stance on that – I’ve been informed that Ruben Amorim is the preferred choice at the moment. De Zerbi has also been considered by Liverpool for some time, but there hasn’t been any progress thus far.

“Additionally, we need to consider Bayern Munich’s decision-making process. It’s still early for internal discussions at Bayern regarding who will succeed Thomas Tuchel, and no decisions have been made yet.”

De Zerbi, whose Brighton side currently occupies the ninth position in the Premier League, is under contract with Brighton until 2026. However, he hasn’t been hesitant in expressing his expectations to the club’s owner, Tony Bloom, regarding his future with the team.

“I am fortunate because I have a clear vision, and I always decide what I want to do in my life,” he stated.

“I will have discussions with Tony and the club, and we will come to a resolution together without any issues. However, I am aware of my future and what I desire.

“I aim to compete and maintain high levels of ambition because football is my life. I want to wake up every morning feeling content and strive to achieve the utmost.”
