Dominik Szoboszlai gave a positive assessment of Liverpool’s pre-season trip to the United States despite it ending in a 4-2 defeat to Leeds United in Chicago, insisting the squad “learned a lot” under new boss Andoni Iraola.

“I think we should speak in general about the two weeks. We got to know each other more and more,” Szoboszlai said, pointing to two wins and one loss across the tour, which also included victories over Sunderland and Wrexham.

He flagged set-pieces as the key lesson after Liverpool conceded twice from dead balls against Leeds, adding: “We really have to take care of it, because I think the next season is going to be the same like last season.”

The Hungarian, who called this summer’s break “the longest in my whole career,” said he’s ready to embrace positional flexibility again under Iraola, even at right-back if needed.

Liverpool now return home to prepare for their Premier League opener at Newcastle on August 23, with Cody Gakpo, Virgil van Dijk and several World Cup participants set to rejoin the group.
