Ruben Amorim makes major admission over his future amid Liverpool links

Ruben Amorim has openly addressed speculation about his future, particularly regarding the Liverpool managerial position, which will soon be available.

Amid rumors linking him to the job, Amorim has been regarded as the frontrunner, especially after Xabi Alonso’s commitment to Bayer Leverkusen.

Reports from Sky in Germany even suggested that the 39-year-old had informally agreed to join Liverpool.

Nevertheless, the Sporting coach has firmly refuted any suggestion of an interview with Liverpool and stressed that his primary focus remains on securing the title in Portugal. Addressing the speculation, he stated during a press conference, “This will be the final time I discuss my future. There was no interview, and definitely no agreement.”

“The only thing we all want here is to be champions with Sporting, nothing will change. I’m the Sporting coach and there was no interview or agreement with any club.

“I’m just focused, as always, on representing my club. As I no longer have anything else to say…

“There will be no interviews or agreements with the Sporting coach. The matter is completely resolved, whether related to this club or another.”

Despite widespread reports naming Amorim as one of the top contenders for managerial positions at both Liverpool and Barcelona, he emphasized that he has not concluded his “cycle” in Portugal.

“A cycle has not yet ended and that depends on the characteristics of each one and on each other’s lives,” he told Record after his side’s 4-0 win over Gil Vicente.

“I think all coaches have their own timing and it has nothing to do with [interest] of clubs, but how the coaches feel. I’m speaking generally and not about my situation.

“I don’t feel like I’ve finished a cycle, I feel like I want to keep going so this isn’t over yet, we want to win and keep moving forward.”
