Man Utd make FA Cup history with feat that’s not been achieved since 1885
Manchester United has contributed to a historic moment in FA Cup history, achieving a feat that hasn’t been witnessed in 139 years. The Red Devils secured a thrilling victory over Championship side Coventry City in a pulsating semi-final clash at Wembley.
Scott McTominay broke the deadlock for Manchester United, followed by Harry Maguire doubling the lead with a header just before half-time.
Coventry City showed resilience by swiftly responding with two goals from Ellis Simms and Callum O’Hare, before Haji Wright converted a last-minute penalty following Aaron-Wan Bissaka’s handball.
In a dramatic moment, Coventry believed they had clinched victory in extra time when Victor Torp scored, only for the goal to be disallowed due to an offside in the build-up.
Despite Manchester United’s somewhat unconvincing performance, their victory sets up a rematch of last season’s FA Cup final against rivals Manchester City, who secured a 1-0 win over Chelsea a day earlier at Wembley.
The encounter marked the first time the two clubs had met in the FA Cup final, with Manchester City emerging victorious with a 2-1 win. City’s success was propelled by a remarkable brace from captain Ilkay Gundogan, which included the fastest goal in the final’s history, scored just 12 seconds into the match.
History repeats itself as Manchester United and Manchester City are set to face each other once again in a historic fixture at Wembley.
The last time the same two sides met in consecutive FA Cup finals was in 1885 when Blackburn Rovers clashed with Scottish side Queen’s Park, with Blackburn emerging victorious on both occasions.
