Controversy in El Clasico as VAR denies Barcelona ‘goal’ when ball looked over

Sunday night’s El Clasico encounter between Real Madrid and Barcelona sparked intense controversy when Barcelona’s goal was disallowed despite the ball appearing to cross the line.
Barcelona took a 1-0 lead at the Santiago Bernabeu with a goal from Andreas Christensen, but Real Madrid equalized through Vinicius Jr’s penalty. However, Barcelona believed they had reclaimed the lead in the 27th minute.
Lamine Yamal executed a clever flick from a corner that surprised goalkeeper Andriy Lunin. Lunin reacted late and managed to parry the ball away just before Federico Valverde, but replays suggested that the ball had crossed the line from various angles.
However, VAR ultimately ruled that the ball had not crossed the line. Remarkably, unlike most top leagues worldwide, La Liga does not utilize goal-line technology, leaving the decision inconclusive due to the lack of definitive evidence.
In the Premier League, the goal-line technology operates by sending a signal directly to the referee’s watch, instantly informing them whether a goal has been scored or not.

Despite its widespread use in other top leagues, there is currently no goal-line technology implemented in the Spanish top flight. According to reports from El Larguero, La Liga president Javier Tebas has expressed reluctance to invest the required £2.6 million for the technology.
